Empowering Audience at Inspire & Impact Together Event
What happens when many ladies and a few men discuss about how to empower women? This was the question we asked ourselves in the morning of 29th September right before Polaris Network's event "Inspire & Impact together" was starting.
The event attracted over 100 participants from various industries and domains. There were women and men working in financial services, or as life coaches, or senior leaders from consultancy industry, lawyers and women working in male-dominated industries such as the container terminal one.
What we observed was that all these diverse women and men, from over 17 different nationalities and countless different domains, have all connected over the topic of how to make an impact and have more women in leadership positions. This was the main theme of the panel discussions where we heard some thought-provoking quotes:
"Managers have, with the greatest intentions, guided me and coached me into support roles - all valuable fields, but traditional areas for women. We need more women in the "core" of the business in order to drive equality" - Iana Boyd, Senior Director APM Terminals
"Having more women into senior leadership positions requires a lot of commitment. What is most impactful is to actually train men about this and how they can change their behaviour towards women in business" - Annerie Vreugdenhil, Global Head of Real Estate Finance, ING Wholesale Banking
"Setting a quota for women in leadership positions is the only way forward if you want to make a change" - Raymond Hannes, Partner at Startup Foundation
Taking these thoughts forward, participants attended a selection of workshops with topics aimed at inspiring them. They could select to learn more about Mindfullness from Thriving Life, or let go of Limiting Beliefs with Alena Hielema, discover what Leadership means in the 21st Century with Duurzaam Verandervermogen and how to become the force for positive change with Izabela Csontos.
But what proved to be the most engaging moment was the active Lunch Break with music & entertainment by YourBrainBreak.
All in all, we should take the topic of Women leadership and making an impact very seriously...but also look at it from a fun perspective as the event's cartoonist Eliane Gerrits.
Looking forward to our next event, where we will promise to deliver an even more inspiring agenda and wish to continue have such a delightful audience!
